Tule Elk Bull ~ Photo taken on the Bitter Creek National Wildlife Refuge, near Maricopa California
In the 1870's the tule elk was thought to be extinct. A large herd lives at Tomales Bay and has been the source for a number of reintroductions. The tule elk were reintroduced on the adjacent Wind Wolves Preserve where there are now more than 200 tule elk. There are over 40 tule elk that spend most of their time on the Bitter Creek National Wildlife Refuge.
