Long Eared Owl | Death Valley
Bird photography ~ Finding the beauty around us - Image Showcase
I went looking for pupfish, but was found by a Long Eared Owl. I stopped in at Salt Springs in Death Valley hoping to find pupfish but they had all hibernated or laid their eggs and perished, none to be found. As I was about to leave an Owl flew by. Rather unexpected for a high altitude bird to be first sighted by me at about the lowest spot on earth. I have found that this wasn't as rare as I at first thought. The owls often nest in cottonwoods throughout the desert Southwest. It was at least as entertaining to see the owl dive into the shallow stream after insects. None the less it seemed pretty surreal finding a Long Eared Owl in Death Valley in the middle of the day.
